IFS has green-lighted one of the largest porting projects with “The Porting Project”
State-of-the-art .NET-based IFS business applications will replace older versions used by 600,000 users world-wide
Following an intensive evaluation and preparation phase, IFS, a
global leading supplier of component-based business software, has
decided to have its Gupta applications ported to .NET. In a very
extensive project, with "The Porting Project" and Ice Porter Tool
automation, around 2.5 million lines of SAL source code will be
converted to functional C# code. For around 600,000 users, the
previous versions will then gradually be replaced. During its World
Conference in Berlin, IFS recently presented to the public the
initial results from the analysis, prototyping and project
preparation: Aurora, an innovative .NET-based user interface. IFS
had hereby developed an add-on to its business solutions making it
possible to navigate easily within and between the various
components and perform cross-application searches. Dan Matthews,
CTO of IFS World, is filled with enthusiasm: "It is truly great to
see these old Centura forms running in our brand new, ultra-modern
user interface." The product presentation took place simultaneously
with the launching of the porting project itself.
